"Getting to know you... getting to like you, getting to hope you like me"

A quick disclaimer:  This blog is intended primarily as a place for me to distill thought and as such will probably not be of much interest to 99.9% of the viewing population.  I'm okay with that.  As far as introductions, suffice it to say I'm a twenty four year old, married (quite happily, thanks), student, preparing to work in the business development department of a firm based in Provo, Utah.  I enjoy sports of all types, musicals, good literature, and even poor literature with good ideas.  I'm looking at you Twilight.

The impetus for this blog was a lecture given by my "Shakespeare and Film" teacher.  She began by citing various studies showing that college students (particularly A students) retain pathetically little from their undergraduate years.  The exceptions apparently, are those students who feel the material they are learning holds meaning for their later life.  She then asked us (the students) how our study habits might change if we were learning something now which would actually (gasp) have importance for our later selves.

As I pondered the question I was led to a deeper one.  What if the thoughts I'm thinking now have importance for my later self or those close to me.  I've kept a journal sporadically for most of my life but I think much more than my daily coming and goings future posterity will be interested in what and how I thought.  Ergo, this blog.

Aside from my own thoughts I find blogging a fascinating way to encapsulate the thoughts of those around us.  Not only can I look back and remember how I felt about a particular book or event but I can also get a snapshot of the opinions of my friends and relatives.  I suppose that's just a verbose way of pleading for comments, positive, negative, agree, disagree, whatever.
